Botox and Dysport Treatments

The active ingredient in Botox® and Dysport® is a purified protein called Botulinum toxin — a naturally-derived muscle relaxer. The protein prevents the the release of the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, that causes muscle flaccidity and temporary paralysis — effectively ‘relaxing’ muscles for months at a time.

The real art of Botox® and Dysport® application lies in the technical skill and aesthetic “eye” of the provider. The placement of injections is critical. Ultimately, your provider needs to be anatomically knowledgeable and artistically attuned to your natural features to ensure a natural-looking and beautiful result.

Botox® and Dysport® injections are available at our San Francisco office for a wide range of conditions:

Botox® and Dysport® treatment for wrinkles and fine lines.

With time, fine lines and wrinkles can become more apparent due to sun exposure, lifestyle choices such as cigarette smoking, and years of squinting and smiling. The skin becomes less elastic, dermal collagen is reduced, and the skin becomes thinner and dryer resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox® or Dysport® is injected with a very fine needle into specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of lines and to smoothen the skin for a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance. The treatment is safe and lasts for approximately 3-4 months.

The condition known as hyperhidrosis is characterized by abnormally increased sweating in the underarms and palms, excessive of that required for regulation of body temperature. Botox® and Dysport® injections alleviate severe sweating by blocking the specific nerves that supply sweat glands. This treatment for hyperhidrosis is a safe, therapeutic use of the muscle-relaxing agent and works in the long-term.

Botox® and Dysport® treatment for migraines (severe headaches).

Migraines are severe headaches that may last from a few hours to several days. Migraines can be extremely debilitating and sufferers may need to take time out from work and leisure time, with bed rest in a dark, quiet room being the only way to recover. The use of Botox® and Dysport® injections to treat migraines is a recent development and is recommended as a safe and therapeutic muscle-relaxing treatment.
