Botox & Dysport
With time, fine lines and wrinkles can become more apparent due to sun exposure, cigarette smoking, and years of squinting and smiling. The skin becomes less elastic, dermal collagen is reduced, and the skin becomes thinner and dryer, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox and Dysport relax the muscles of facial expression, thereby reducing the appearance of many dynamic fine lines and preventing the formation of new lines over time with continued, sequential treatments. They are injected into specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of “expression lines” and to smoothen the skin for a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

During your initial consultation, we collaborate with you to develop a plan of care that reflects your desired final outcome and your time frame. To ensure a natural-looking result the aesthetic skill and keen artistic eye of an experienced cosmetic injector is critical. That’s why we undertake an in-depth analysis of the movement of your unique facial muscles to examine your unique facial “animation lines”. From this we develop a plan that addresses specific concerns while preserving the unique characteristics of your individual face.
Treatments can be more or less conservative, providing a significant or gradual change depending upon your comfort level. Often, more than one treatment or therapy may be indicated to achieve your desired results.

Downtime and discomfort from the treatment is minimal, and most patients return to normal social, work, and family activities immediately. There is some transient mild redness and occasionally minor swelling at the injection sites, which tends to dissipate after about 15-20 minutes. Rarely, some mild bruising may occur. Effects are noted with both Botox and Dysport treatment within as little as 1 to 5 days, with full effect being apparent in about 3 weeks. Planning Botox and Dysport treatments a few weeks prior to important social engagements allows the final treatment effects to be realized before your event.
The condition known as hyperhidrosis is characterized by abnormally increased sweating in the underarms and palms, excessive of that required for regulation of body temperature. Hyperhidrosis is an embarrassing and hard-to-disguise condition that may severely affect personal relationships, professional confidence, even work productivity, and quality of life. Botox treatment is highly recommended for hyperhidrosis sufferers, people who have tried everything else but cannot reduce sweating — even with strong antiperspirants. Botox works extremely efficiently to alleviate the actual sweat and also reduce body odor (bromhidrosis).
Botox and Dysport for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
-
Botox and Dysport injections alleviate severe sweating by blocking the specific nerves that supply sweat glands. Botox and Dysport treatment for hyperhidrosis is a safe, therapeutic use of the muscle-relaxing agent. They work by interrupting nerve impulses that stimulate sweat glands to produce sweat, thereby alleviating excessive perspiration.
The injections are placed in a strategic manner, targeting the areas of the highest levels of perspiration. The location and placement of the injections is a critical factor to effectively stop sweat glands from producing excessive sweat.
Injections of Botox and Dysport are relatively painless and shallow, injected just below the surface of the skin. The treatment feels similar to a mild prickling sensation.
-
Botox and Dysport injections are a quick procedure with no downtime. The treatment itself takes about 30 minutes, but plan to be in our office for about an hour to allow for pre-treatment preparation.
Botox and Dysport injections are placed in the underarm using a tiny needle. The treatment will take about 4 weeks for you to notice the full effect, and you should experience an initial and significant reduction of underarm sweating during this time.
Most people require repeat treatments to achieve long-lasting results. Repeated treatment with Botox and Dysport is safe and results in long-lasting improvements and a significant reduction in excessive sweating, improving your quality of life.
-
The effects of a single Botox or Dysport treatment for hyperhidrosis typically lasts 6 months. However, this varies for each individual. Some patients are free of excessive sweating for up to 12 months before repeat treatments are required.
Migraine headaches are frequently recurring, debilitating headaches that are characterized by a severe pulsating pain that can last from a few hours to several days. Accompanying symptoms may include nausea and vomiting, along with sensitivity to light, sound, and/or smell. Most people who suffer from migraine headaches need to take time out from work and leisure time, with bed rest in a dark, quiet room being the only way to recover.
Botox and Dysport Migraine Treatment
-
The use of Botox to treat migraines is FDA approved as a safe therapeutic muscle-relaxing treatment. Although Dysport is not FDA approved to treat migraines, it is a well known off-label use for the product. The treatment works by interrupting the nerve impulses from the brain to relax muscle activity and reduce the pain and duration of migraines.
During treatment, Botox or Dysport is injected in specific areas of the face, scalp, neck and shoulders depending on the migraine symptoms experienced. Treatment can be very effective in relieving migraines that are characterized by severe pain moving inwards with a “squeezing” or “crushing” sensation. Botox and Dysport work by relaxing the nerves that typically become inflamed during a migraine attack and cause acute pain.
People who suffer from chronic migraine headaches or Bruxism (grinding of the teeth) are ideal candidates for migraine treatment. Those who have had a long history of migraines and suffer from severe headaches frequently (a few times a month) also are good candidates for the therapeutic use of Botox and Dysport.
-
Typically, migraine sufferers receive treatment at intervals of about 3-4 months apart initially to manage the migraines. These treatments are given as multiple injections around the head and neck to reduce the pain of severe migraine attacks. Injection patterns may change depending on the quality and characteristics of the migraines to better target the underlying cause.
-
The number of treatments and duration of effect varies depending on the individual. A series of Botox or Dysport injections may last 4 to 6 months or longer. Ideally, we recommend several planned treatment sessions with the aim of reducing migraine symptoms for up to 8 to 10 months — depending on the severity of your migraines.
The masseter muscle is located at the lower rear aspect of the cheek, running from the cheekbone down to the lower jaw on both sides of the face. The muscle connects the mandible (lower jawbone) to the cheekbone and is known as one of the muscles of mastication (chewing), its function is to close the jaw while chewing. The masseter muscle may become enlarged if you have a tendency to clench or grind your teeth (bruxism) or you chew gum excessively. Unequal enlargement of the muscle may result in asymetry and increased bulk, creating an overly-square jawline.
Botox and Dysport for Masseter Muscle Reduction
-
Injectable muscle relaxing agents such as Botox or Dysport are well-established treatments to non-surgically reduce the size of the masseter muscle. These injections are effective at reducing the size and bulk of the muscle over time while also decreasing habitual jaw clenching or teeth grinding.
-
Non-surgical masseter muscle reduction requires Botox or Dysport to be injected directly into the masseter muscle over several sessions until the desired reduction in appearance is achieved. Your provider should have a comprehensive and in depth understanding of facial anatomy–otherwise unintended side effects may result that may take weeks or months to resolve.
-
The effects of Botox or Dysport will be evident within a week or so after your initial treatment. You will experience less muscle pain and less TMJ-related headaches, typically in a few days, with the full effect of treatment realized in 3-4 weeks. After approximately 3-6 months you will begin to see noticeable and visible shrinkage of the masseter muscle with continued treatment.
You will need a series of several sessions to see the results you desire. However, this is the beauty of Botox and Dysport — it’s a gradual approach that allows you to work towards the degree of change you’re happy with. Injections of Botox or Dysport may need to be repeated every 4-6 months for at least a year to see a significant and obvious reduction in masseter muscle size.
