Facial Redness and Broken Capillaries
Broken capillaries and facial redness are quite common, and many adults will notice them with time. There are many causes, but genetics is the most common, so patients can likely find someone in their immediate family who has the same appearance. Sun exposure, age, pregnancy, certain medications and lifestyle choices can cause capillaries or facial redness to appear.
Some patients may have rosacea, a chronic skin disease characterized by facial flushing, redness, capillaries, and often papules and pustules. It most often affects the nose, cheeks, and the central forehead and chin. Although there is no cure for rosacea, there are topical and oral medications that can alleviate some of the symptoms and make it more manageable.
The IPL Photofacial treatment has successfully been the treatment of choice for broken capillaries, facial redness and rosacea since 1998. The IPL can not only treat facial redness, but also brown spots and can improve skin texture.
