Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a natural way to restore volume and rejuvenate facial contours.

Aging is a natural phenomenon and over time, facial contours change gradually. Volume is lost in the temple, forehead and cheeks, while the appearance of skin laxity in the jawline and lower face increases. The nasolabial folds (the lines that move downwards from the nostrils towards the corners of the mouth); and oral commissure creases (the corners of the mouth), appear deeper due to the laxity of the cheeks.

Collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid levels in the skin gradually decrease, contributing to the appearance of fine or deep lines, creases, and areas of flattening or volume loss. Additionally, changes to bone, muscle and other tissues contribute to overall facial aging.

Dermal fillers correct volume loss and improve contour throughout the face and hands using a stabilized form of hyaluronic acid (HA). Dermal fillers mimic your body’s own hyaluronic acid by providing volume and fullness.

Some of the most popular brands of dermal fillers include Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, Juvederm, Voluma, and Volux.

    • Adding volume and contour to the cheeks, chin, temple and jawline

    • Filling facial hollows and sunken areas under the eyes

    • Reducing a “sad mouth” appearance (oral commissure creases)

    • Lip augmentation and lip contouring

    • Adding volume to the hands

    • Restoring the volume and shape of the earlobes

  • Whatever aesthetic enhancement you are seeking, the best outcome is always a natural one. You want to look like an improved version of yourself – and not make it obvious that you’ve “had work done”.

Your aesthetic provider will perform a critical analysis of the natural balance and proportion of your face to develop a plan that addresses specific concerns, while preserving your own unique facial characteristics. During your initial consultation your provider will develop a plan of care that reflects the final outcome you desire, and your time frame and budget.

Dermal filler treatments can be subtle or more significant depending upon your comfort level. Often, more than one treatment session may be needed to achieve your desired results. Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible, which adds to their appeal for first-time patients. Most also contain lidocaine, an anesthetic, which greatly minimizes treatment discomfort.

  • Most patients experience some degree of social downtime after a filler treatment, including some mild bruising, swelling and transient redness. Because it may take two weeks for the results of the treatment to be fully settled, it is important to plan filler treatments in advance of important social events. However, most patients return to normal social activities within a day or so. Makeup can also cover any bruising that may occur. The application of topical ice prior to and after treatment, as well as the use of a topical anesthetic enhances comfort and reduces swelling and downtime.

  • Most dermal fillers last between 6-12 months or longer, depending on the filler product and the facial location in which they are placed. Fillers placed in the lips tend to last an average of 6 months or so, while filler placed in the hands, under eye area, cheeks or temple region can last up to a year or more.
