Volume Loss

Patients may notice that they look “tired” or the appearance of jowls and other signs of volume loss. There is a natural progression of fat loss in the face that occurs with time. The facial fat pads lose volume and also begin to descend, causing the appearance of hollowing under the eyes, in the temple region, the cheeks, and deeper lines around the mouth.

Sagging or loose skin can cause the appearance of jowls and the appearance of fullness under the chin, or a “double chin” appearance. Facial bones give the face structure and a framework for the facial muscles and fat pads. Over time, facial bone loss also contributes to volume loss and changes the dimension and contour of the face, such as a less defined jawline.

Dermal fillers can be used to recreate both volume and contour. Each filler product has  different structural qualities that make it uniquely fitted for treating certain areas and concerns. Read more about dermal fillers here. .
